Firstly
I enjoy helping and
serving people in this capacity.
Past experience...
During
2003 I had the opportunity to serve as class & college
representative for Psychology students.
Initially this was a real learning curve, notwithstanding I'd
volunteered for a position of responsibility that "no one else
wanted". However I
realised at the time that there was either two ways to handle the
responsibility. Either go in it half-heartedly or else take full
ownership and "put your stamp" on the role.
100% Commitment...
What I quickly discovered is that if you're
100% committed in both word and deed to "the job" of serving your
fellow students, then their apparent apathy quickly
dissapates; plus they're more willing to overlook the shortcomings as
well.
Communication...
In addition I discovered another important ingredient to
succeeding as a class rep was maintaining good lines of COMMUNICATION
with both your fellow students and staff. This was done for the
most part through the use of mailing lists, which I used to inform them
about the outcome of Humanities
College meetings plus "tout" them for suggestions and ideas for
future meetings. Later on in the year I developed specific class
websites which also featured additional supporting material related to
the course.

Behaviour class support site

Formula: 100%
commitment & communication...
I
will be continuing the same as your Post-Grad representative...
Primarily because I believe its the key towards
successfully expediting the responsiblity of serving a Post-Graduate
body of 1000 people. Plus it also reflects a great deal about the way I
"naturally" go about things as a person too.
The plan...
One of the biggest challenges is establishing good lines of
communication with the PG study body. So whats my "game plan"?
. Website: I plan to keep you
all informed about "whats happening" on www.baron.co.nz, plus include
notes from meetings that I attend. Furthermore I'll also use the site
to outline issues with you plus provide you with any additional
information that may be of use to you as a Post-Graduate student.
. Email : I'd also like to
set up a mailout list. This will primarily used to keep you informed
about "whats happening" but also to obtain your feedback on issues that
will inevitably rise from time to time. The biggest challenge will be
building the list and may involve me visiting classes or perhaps
approaching the ASA for assistance.
. Noticeboards: I'll be using
the student noticeboards to also keep you informed about "whats
happening", promote the mailing list, plus direct people to the website.
. Regular Post-Graduate clinics:
Ideally I would like to hold regular Post-Graduate clinics. In addition
to providing a more personal touch to the way I serve you, it would
also provided you with an opportunity meet up with me in person and
discuss your
concerns, ideas, etc... This of course is very dependent on
finding a suitable
room on campus, which is why I haven't publicly promoted the idea in
any great measure.
